FIRE VOICE INTEGRATE

Smith & Williamson is an independently-owned financial and professional services group. It employs more than 1,700 people in 12 offices across the UK, Ireland and Jersey, and provides a range of services for individuals, families and businesses.

Senseco Systems was called upon to work with Smith & Williamson because its existing Siemens AlgoRex fire detection and alarm system at its office in Moorgate, London had reached the end of its life and needed replacing.

The company asked us to include all of its existing plant controls as part of the replacement. It also wanted us to install a Voice Alarm system to ensure clear messages are given out in the event of an alarm, and this would replace the previous system, which only used sounders.

THE CHALLENGE

We carried out the project in a live, working office where minimising disruption was key. It was also important for us to keep our client informed at all stages about which areas we would be working in. Therefore, careful planning was crucial.

Plus, we had to work around Smith & Williamson’s extensive plant control, which needed to be retained and interfaced into the new system.

THE SOLUTION

We were chosen because of our thorough understanding of our client’s needs and because our proposals offered the most effective solution.

And that solution was to replace the AlgoRex with a Siemens Cerberus PRO fire alarm system.

The powerful Cerberus PRO provides fast, reliable fire detection, alarm signalling and control, combining clever technology with extensive safety features.

And because the system is ‘open protocol’ our client has a choice of service providers to maintain and amend the system during its life.

We included a specially-built panel incorporating the plant control, and also installed a new Voice Alarm system.

THE RESULT

The project was a resounding success and we delivered in all areas.

Smith & Williamson was delighted with the new system, which is high quality, technically advanced and, most importantly, reliable. It also offers ease of use and management.

As an approved Siemens partner, we used our experience to carry out the system migration to Cerberus PRO with minimal disruption and at a fraction of the cost of replacing the entire system.

Smith & Williamson was also pleased with the new Voice Alarm, not only because it avoids confusion in the event of a fire or security issue, but because it can warn of incidents such as bomb threats.

John Bromfield, facilities manager at Smith & Williamson, said: “Senseco won the bid and all of our panel agreed they were head and shoulders above the competition. They showed a deep understanding of the product and communicated this to the project board.

“Senseco carried out the work during the evening and into the small hours. And it’s testimony to their work that after our first email to all staff in the building, we didn’t need to communicate again until the testing phase of the fit-out.

“We had no complaints from any staff, and Senseco communicated with me prior to starting any new phases. They worked well with our resident engineer, and the whole process was seamless from start to finish. Senseco is a very professional outfit.”

Somerset House

Somerset House is a heritage property dating back to 1547 in the heart of London. Although it is well known for it’s outdoor skating rink at Christmas and open air concerts in the summer, it has many other uses and accommodates many other tenants. It hosts the UK’s largest creative community working globally across art, technology, business and social enterprise.

The South Wing of Somerset House had a mix of hard wired fire detection system, an obsolete radio / wireless fire detection system and many aspiration systems, most no longeroperational. The project was to replace all of the systems in the South Wing with a single fire detection system for all areas and provide graphical representation of this wing and two other wings with legacy systems on a single graphics platform.

This was all to be carried out within a listed building with mixed use and different tenants with minimal disruption to day to day operations.
