SIEMENS MIGRATION

CASE STUDY

There are many Siemens “legacy” systems in the marketplace, such as AlgoRex / CT11. These systems are now becoming obsolete with parts in short supply and in many cases with no replacement parts available.  So while the systems are known for their reliability and capability, they need to be replaced or upgraded.

As an approved and trained Siemens Solution Partner, Senseco has the expertise and experience to carry out system migrations from an older system to the modern Cerberus PRO.  System migration means there is minimal disruption and lower costs compared to replacing the entire system.  And because it’s an open protocol system, you’ll have a choice of companies to maintain it.

We have carried out many successful Siemens migrations ranging from corporate offices, manufacturing facilities, hotels and hospitals.

THE CHALLENGE

Many AlgoRex systems are large, networked systems with complex cause and effects functions.  It is important to capture all existing operational information to ensure a changeover can be achieved with minimal disruption to the operation of the site.

We initially pre-programme the new panels with the system configuration on demonstration boards in our office. We give our clients the chance to see this working and sign it off before we bring the panels to site. We then swap the old panels for the new ones onsite, and these will run all existing field devices.  Next, we change the devices, one loop at a time, until the full system has been upgraded.

A migration allows your existing infrastructure to be used and the work to be carried out in phases, keeping disruption to a minimum and spreading the cost.

THE SOLUTION

Our projects team have vast experience and a proven method of migrating Siemens AlgoRex systems to Siemens Cerberus systems on live working sites with minimal disruption.  Our engineers have been fully trained on the Cerberus PRO fire alarm system to ensure all functionality is correctly programmed.

The Cerberus PRO system provides fast, reliable fire detection, alarm signalling and control, combining smart technology with a number of safety features. It has very flexible programming, making it suitable for the most complex of sites, while at the same time it’s easy to use. Click here to find out more

Plus, many of our migration clients have chosen to upgrade to ASA (Advanced Signal Analysis) devices, and we have provided our FAITH (False Alarm Immune Technology Harnessed) guarantee, which is our written guarantee against false alarms. Click here to find out more

THE RESULT

Our clients have been delighted with the results of our migration projects.  Many amazed at how we can be in and out on site almost unnoticed other than leaving them with a modern supportable fire alarm system.

Here’s a selection of the many comments we have had from our migration clients

Somerset House

Somerset House is a heritage property dating back to 1547 in the heart of London. Although it is well known for it’s outdoor skating rink at Christmas and open air concerts in the summer, it has many other uses and accommodates many other tenants. It hosts the UK’s largest creative community working globally across art, technology, business and social enterprise.

The South Wing of Somerset House had a mix of hard wired fire detection system, an obsolete radio / wireless fire detection system and many aspiration systems, most no longeroperational. The project was to replace all of the systems in the South Wing with a single fire detection system for all areas and provide graphical representation of this wing and two other wings with legacy systems on a single graphics platform.

This was all to be carried out within a listed building with mixed use and different tenants with minimal disruption to day to day operations.

Castle Mall

Located in the centre of Norwich City, Castle Mall shopping centre comprises of 60 stores and food outlets, across five levels of retail and leisure, including an 8-screen Vue cinema. The centre also boasts a 790 space multi-storey car park.

The fire detection and alarm system installed in the shopping centre was a Honeywell FC90 system, which was closed protocol and had reached the end of its working life. A replacement system was therefore needed to provide a modern supportable system for the shopping centre.

This is a working shopping centre so minimal disruption to the operation of the shopping centre, retailers and shoppers was of paramount importance.

Uniper Enfield

Uniper’s portfolio combines large-scale power generation and management of energy supply chains. Uniper’s former parent company was E.ON, who now focus on the new energy world.

Uniper Power Station in Enfield had fire, suppression and voice alarm systems that had reached the end of their serviceable life.  They needed modern control equipment which would combine controls for different extinguishing systems into a centralised control station.  The extinguishing systems themselves also needed replacing or updating.

Senseco were chosen to provide a bespoke solution providing controls and upgrades for gas extinguishing, water mist and deluge systems along with a replacement voice alarm rack.  Our power station expertise and ability to provide flexible, custom built solutions to meet Uniper’s needs were key to the project.
